Trauma Informed Support for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
This free online training is designed for all Alaskans providing direct support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). It will show a view of trauma from the perspective of the lives of people with IDD. We will begin by exploring the sources of trauma and then the effects of that trauma on both a biological and psychological level. Finally, we will focus on the key ingredients to help individuals heal and build a positive sense of self. Throughout, case studies will be examined to show how this knowledge can help support people in real-life scenarios.

Four sessions will be held via Zoom from 10am to 12pm on the second Saturday of the month.

March 11th - 10am to 12pm:
Sources of trauma for people with IDD

April 8th - 10am to 12pm:
Biological and psychological effects of trauma for people with IDD

May 13th - 10am to 12pm:
Supporting individuals with IDD with the effects of trauma

June 10th - 10am to 12pm:
Supporting individuals with IDD to build a positive identity

Attend all four sessions and take an online open book quiz to receive your training certificate in Trauma Informed Care of Individuals with IDD.

The first 90 participants to attend all four live sessions and receive their certificate will also receive Trauma and Healing in the Lives of People With Intellectual Disability by Dr. Harvey for free.
