As an instructor at CTC, I see many students struggling financially, and every little bit counts to them. So differential tuition is good news to me if it means less automatic increases.

Alda, good note. Some background if useful: Increases are not automatic; rather they are requested each year and reviewed and approved (or not) by the BOR. This was the first year that universities had an opportunity to make a request a) tied to budgetary needs and b) that might better fit rates to different university mission/based on UAF peer comparisons. I think one big win for UAF in this case was that lower division at UAF and CTC and CCs was frozen, ensuring that the barrier to entry for many students stays low in this difficult time. The increase in upper division and graduate level also reflects the budget climate and need to add revenue, but will also be coupled with increased financial aid for students. This builds on the UAF research flagship mission and we hope will help showcase our quality education offerings over time. UAF Interim AVC Enrollment, Samara Taber is also expanding the Nanook Pledge for needs-based aid and is looking into expansion for non-four year students as well.
