We have quroum
Michael Szidloski II (he/him/his)
20:45
agreed, there's been a huge uptick in attacks on universities in general, and against UA in specific
Michael Szidloski II (he/him/his)
33:36
thanks Derek, that's very succinct!
Rachel Potter (she/her)
33:43
Thanks, Derek!
Michael Szidloski II (he/him/his)
35:04
Thanks for highlighting that Stacey!

The drive-in stuff was actually pretty fun. My son really liked driving around campus with all the folks cheering
Julie Queen
37:59
Congrats to Louie Bastille! :)

Awesome! Thanks for that link Stacey! :D

It just feels that the new setup has introduced barriers between the HR folks and UAF employees. Yes, they are all good folks at HR, but with this new reality there has been a loss of direct interaction with staff. HR does not feel like it is really there to help/support individually except thru intermediate things like Spoke.
Michael Szidloski II (he/him/his)
55:14
here here Derek
Juella Sparks, UAF
58:14
@Julie Q - Given the chancellor was pinched for time, I decided not to ask my questions. Would you be willing to carry a suggestion for me? I don’t know if he or you were able to watch Ash Beckham’s presentation on Inclusive Leadership during SRDD last Friday. It was a powerful presentation and she had great thoughts for leaders to consider. I was going to encourage Chancellor White to answer here or in a Cornerstone piece how he, as our leader “encourages courage
Juella Sparks, UAF
58:23
Goops too soon :)
Juella Sparks, UAF
58:44
Part 2 - Also how does he make sure other voices are being heard?
Julie Queen
01:00:28
Juella - great idea. Yes, I watched Ash Beckham - it was a fabulous presentation. He did as well, but missed the Q&A. I'll carry those suggestions back.
Juella Sparks, UAF
01:00:46
Thank you!
Charlene Stern
01:22:05
Thank you for the great comments and questions everyone.
Derek Bastille
01:27:23
A dedicated HR personnel team. Not ‘personnel’ from a paperwork, but from a front line support standpoint. None of the HR folks are dedicated to support for staff at campuses
kclove
01:28:19
I have heard that UA HR will be remaining mostly remote.
Michael Szidloski II (he/him/his)
01:29:53
there also appears to be a lack of concern with how effective UA HR processes are. There isn't a lot of self reflection, or conversations, with campuses for what they need. It's all "oh just go through spoke"
Derek Bastille
01:31:48
This is kind of my point… we are all referring to HR as some foreign organization that we have to navigate through and that aren’t part of ‘us’. We need to have HR such that they feel a part of our team. How can we do that?
Michael Szidloski II (he/him/his)
01:32:00
agreed Derek
Derek Bastille
01:34:56
Nycollette sent me a list of all the current UAF PPA/coordinators.
Derek Bastille
01:37:09
Not counting the rural campuses, there are 173 identified HR coordinators (including backups for many departments)
kclove
01:37:53
Sorry I have to go. Short staffed today.
Juella Sparks, UAF
01:39:56
@Mathew I’d like to propose bringing the 173 staff together in a forum to hear the challenges they face in dealing with UA HR and for them to hear our perspective
Derek Bastille
01:40:23
Thanks, Julie!
Juella Sparks, UAF
01:42:31
Valid point Julie

I have to jump off. Thanks everyone

02:34:11
thank you for that context!
Michael Szidloski II (he/him/his)
02:34:21
not a problem, happy to help!
Alda Norris, UAF
02:35:18
Crisis is not hyperbolic. Today part of Julie's response to our criticisms of HR was "perhaps we need more" personnel. Yet the official plan is to keep saving by attrition...
Juella Sparks, UAF
02:37:22
Good point Alda!
Michael Szidloski II (he/him/his)
02:39:15
I missed it as well, apologies
